Wow.
This is a really boring update.
July 29th - Cronenberg's Spider. Played at Cannes. Creeped people out. Par for the course. Starring Fiennes as a schizo who sees monsters or something like that. August 5th - Agent Cody Banks aka, co-starring jailbait teen queen Hillary Duff. Hey, I'm not the first one to write those words I'm sure. Don't get all creeped out... August 12th - House of 1000 Corpses, Will and Grace: S1, Cradle 2 the Grave. A Rob Zombie movie that no studio wanted to touch with a ten-foot pole, a gay (literally) TV show and a shitty action movie. In other news, August 12th will now be known as "Horrible Release Day". August 19th - Bulletproof Monk, National Lampoon's Vacation. Like the Yin and Yang this two movies interwine. I don't know what I'm writing. I'm tired. October 21st - Taken, the Sci-Fi miniseries that was critically acclaimed, but tI didn't watch, will appear in a 6 disc, five episode widescreen set. $120. It's produced by Spielberg and people seemed to like it, so I'll probably end up picking this up or stealing it because I believe in Linux and open source DVD. I'm just ranting now. Seinfeld may hit DVD within a year or so. Maybe. That's the rumor. Jerry says the process of scrounging up archives has began. No word on if it's season by season or those bad "best-of" discs that idiotic studios are so fond of. May 7th, 2003 This is the biggest news of the year as far as I'm concerned. All three Indiana Jones movies are going to appear this fall in a big old box set. There's even going to be another disc filled with extras and bonus stuff. No Lucas-like changes will be made, but the films will be all cleaned up and remastered for audio and video. Thank the Lord. Next to the original Star Wars, this is the only set that I was really, really waiting for. June 24th - Adam and Jimmy's jiggling girl filled The Man Show - The First Season, gets the DVD treatment. July 8th - Phone Booth. I'm watching you. Also, the even less seen Basic, starring fatty-extrodinare and loopy Scientologist John Travolta. July 22nd - The Kevin Spacey snore-fest, The Life of David Gale, unfortunately takes up space on DVD shelves nationwide. July 29th - I wasn't going to mention this, but I was persuaded. Universal is going to release yet another addition of American Pie 1 and 2. Damn. How many people haven't seen these flicks yet? August
12th - Spielberg's first television movie, Duel
finally crashes to DVD. Also the role that allowed Cher to walk away
with an Oscar, Mask, makes its first appearance. April 2003 June 10th - I really liked this flick. It's Old School and it comes in several different versions. June 17th - Interview with the Assassin, a ficitional documentary about the shooting of JFK. This is supposed to be a fascinating little flick. Also, The first season of The Dead Zone, which I'm going to buy even though I've never seen it. I heard it's good... June 24th - Huzzah! Lost in La Mancha, the documentary about Terry Gilliam's infamously failed film, bows on DVD. Since it was so hard to see in theaters, I'm really looking forward to this. Punch-Drunk Love, Sandler's weird, experimental romance of a movie hits the stores as well. July 1st - After much back and forth, this is the day Gangs of New York appears on DVD and it even includes a Scorcese commentary. "Have you ever tried decaf?" - The Muses July 22nd - I'm going to buy this just so I can torture myself again: Final Destination 2 hits DVD. It's an InfiniFilm release. Isn't that like putting a silk hat on a pig? Shanghai Knights, a film possibly better than the original. July
29th - Daredevil 2 disc set with lots of junk
for us comic book fans. August 12th - FINALLY! The third season of Mr. Show with Bob and David oozes its way into our homes. GloboChem and Pit-Pat the Pansexual Spokescreature celebrate.s August
19th - I thought I'd never see this. The special edition of
the very-overlooked animated feature The Iron Giant
appears this day. September 2nd - Let us pray and celebrate. The first and second seasons of Saved by the Bell appear on DVD. What's next? Only time will tell. The better news? Alias: The First Season. It's a six disc set in widescreen with Dolby 5.1 sound. Hells yeah. March
2003 June
3rd: About Schmidt...Great movie that I never wrote a review for.
Blackhawk Down, three disc edition will appear. Given the original
disc's almost complete lack of extras and a relatively low price point,
this might be worth it. Die Another Day, live through yet another
Bond movie. But you do get to see Halle Berry in a skimpy clothing.
If there's a universe where that's considered bad, I don't know about
it. June
24th: I'm going to be very drunk to review this one. Kangaroo
Jack. That is all. July 17th: I may just splurge and pick this up: The Billy Wilder Collection with 8 movies. It hits the streets with a retail of about $125. Given street prices, it could go as low as $90. With films like The Apartment and Some Like It Hot, there's not much to go wrong here. August 19th: Best picture Chicago bows on DVD. October 7th: Disney's big The Lion King release.
Now:
Eraserhead, the early, confusing film from David Lynch is now available
on his website. On shopnbc.com, the first six episodes of Kingpin
are already available.
April 1st: The Oscar nominated Far From Heaven shows up. May 6th: Catch Me If You Can with some nice featurettes. May
20th: Finally, the Coen Brothers' Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing
hit DVD. Long awaited, the discs will have deleted scenes and some
interviews. Adaptation, in low extra SuperBit edition will bow
as well. The superbomb Star Trek: Nemesis shows up, probably
the first time many will see it. Also announced are the first seasons of Frasier, Cheers, Charlie's Angels, King of the Hill and lots of other TV crap on DVD. |
