Ali G Show (2003) Starring Sacha Baron Cohen Now showing on HBO by Alex Mestas 3/11/2003 More info: HBO |
In each episode, some unsuspecting politico or celebrity sits down for an interview with Ali G. For example, Mr. G asks the horrid Newt Gingrich questions like "If we hads a women president, wouldn't we haves the problem of her fallin' in love wit Saddam? Wouldn't she cry a lot?" Mr. G is also fond of calling people righteous geezers. It's a compliment you know. Along with his staple interviewer, Ali G, Cohen also a few other characters to trot out. One is Austrian style reporter Bruno who asks vapid fashion designers vapid questions, which they answer with uneasy candor. Apparently, fashion designers honestly think that the homeless should be shipped away on trains to concentration camps. What good people. My favorite character is, Borat who hails from the tumultuous land of Kazakhstan. In what appears to be a public access show Borat, clueless foreigner that he is, asks people what they think about various topics close to his heart including prostitutes, farts and murder. He does so in such a confused manner however, that you can't help but enjoy the madness. A picture is worth a thousand words, or so they say. Visit www.hbo.com/alig/video, to see some clips from the show. Needless to say, these videos contain some language so it's not safe for school or work. But it is safe for laughs! Ha! Ha....ha.....hmm...*Cough*.
Da Ali G show isn't different than anything you've seen - Tom Green and The Daily Show have been doing it for years. But unlike the lightweight interviews that those shows feature, given his almost anonymous nature, Ali G has bigger interviews with people like amazingly clueless priests, DEA agents and celebrities. I have the feeling Da Ali G Show isn't going to be around for long. Once people get word of another comedian pretending to be a reporter, they'll stop doing interviews. Enjoy it while you can.
